!!! INFORMATION !!!

With a heavy heart I have to interrupt my journey.

I will of course still share my last cities, countries and experiences with you. The new chapters will be under this post. Have fun while reading, and in these times, you have enough time for it =)

I would never have thought that I would have to interrupt my trip because of a worldwide epidemic, but as so often, I have been instructed otherwise.

Five days ago I planned my next trip to Nicaragua. I searched for the next divespots, planned the two days track on an active volcano and booked my bus to Nicaragua.
But the situations has changed very chickly. I was actually in Costa Rica. The plan was: Only one week in Costa Rica (because it is really expensive there) and after three weeks in Nicaragua, continue to Honduras. I was really looking forward to these countries, I only heard beautiful stories about it. TJahhhhhhh…… that was the plan, it was…..

Now, I am sitting at home with my family and stare at my stuff, unpack my backpack, wash my laundry and sort out all the foreign money and souvenirs.

I look back with a crying but also with a smilling eye.

My goals of the trip were:

– Get to know and understand new people
– See, learn and live new cultures
– Live the backpacker life
– Make new friendships
– Try new activities
– Find yourself

I learned a lot about myself in just under six months. that was the main goal of the trip. I have to admit honestly, I have achieved all goals!! So it is not a failure, I am rather happy that I was able to go back with my own feet, healthy after almost six months of traveling.

The only goal that I have not yet achieved is ALASKA. But the time for it will come, for sure!!

Unfortunately, I was not allowed to hug my family, strange feeling to say “hallo”. But still it is very nice when everyone is healthy, THANKS.

I was also extremely lucky to be able to leave the country. My departure was at 23:45 in Bogotá and at 00:00 Colombia has closed all boarders. Many backpacker friends of me are still there in quarantine. Or in prison because they disregarded the curfew. Beaches, restaurants, hostels and many hotels are closed, or closed for europeans. All the public transportation system, all domestic buses have been shut down.
We, in europe, don’t hear much about the problems in south america. But believe me, you certainly don’t want to be over there now, only with your backpack, without accommodation, drinking water and food is becoming scarce, many locals point a finger at you…….
It is a much safer, nicer and warmer feeling to be healthy at home!!

My home trip took four days. The last i visited was Monteverde (Costa Rica). From Monteverde with a five hours bus to San Jose. One night in San Jose, with the plane from San Jose to Bogotá, Bogotá to Munich. One night in Munich, with the train to Judenburg and than the last night hike =) I arrived at home on March 17 at 00:45am.

What I learned also on my trip: Make the best of every situation!! And I am going to do that now…..

Buena suerte y salud!! Hasta luego!!

Muchas Gracias,
Chris
