After the breakfest I went to the bus terminal. I asked for the bus to Salento and after two hours I was in Salento. Well done =)
I had booked a sweet, nice and quiet hostel close to the city. I loved the hostel! The nicest at the hostel were the puppies =) =) We had a little photoshooting there, “Colombias Next Whelp Model” =) you can choose the winner =) let me know who wins =)
During the first day in Salento I did a short walk. I went up to the hill where you can see the whole city and I walked also through the shopping street. There are many tourists but the city is quiet nice and perfect for relaxing days. I had also a typical food there “Truchas Al Vapor”, fish in a mushroom, shrimps, ham soup. It was delicious!
Salento:
Salento is a small town in the middle of the most important coffee district in Colombia. It has about 8000 inhabitans. The town is one of the major tourist attractions of Colombia, thanks to its peaceful nature, impressive scenery and many coffee farms where you can do coffee tours.
Salento is also the starting point for excursions into the Cocora valley and hiking in the Los Nevados National Natural Park: jeep taxis leave from the town square and travel 11 km up the valley to the settlement of “Cocora”, from where the valley may be explored on foot or on horseback via numerous trails.
I did two tours:
The first one was the Cocora valley tour. I was standing on a board at the trailer hitch during the whole way and it was nnnniiiicccceeee. I had a wonderfull view and a nice wind was blowing through my hairs. That was a perfect way to travel =)
I did there a four hour walk with many nice viewpoints. The valley is part of the Los Nevados Natiomal Natural Park, incorporated into the existing national park by the Colombian government in 1985. It is the main location where the national tree of Colombia, the Quindío wax palm can be found, as well as a wide variety of other flora and fauna (some endangered), all of which are protected under the park’s national status.
The secound one was a coffee tour.
It was like a vintage. I got a lot of information about growing coffee. starting with coffee seeds, coffee harvest, coffee roasting and the perfect preparation of a coffee. When I come back to Austria i like to make you a good coffee. I know how it works now and I have to confess, I made a lot of mistakes =)
